WASHI TAPE LYING AROUND COLLECTING DUST?

Use it in a unique Father’s Day gift!

Obsessed with cute stationary and get a high from buying those small tapes and stickers? Then get home and toss them into some random box never seeing the light of day again? Yup, that’s me. My best efforts to keep clutter at bay, by resisting impulse purchases, are usually thwart when I see those pretty stationary. So imagine my happiness when Riley wanted to do some painting for father’s day gifts, and my washi tape popped up.

We had already tried some resist painting with white crayons to great effect. You can see our mother’s day project here. I was pretty excited to try using tape and paint.

WOAH HE SAT THROUGH STICKING ALL THOSE ALPHABETS!

To get my 3 year old to sit still and complete a worksheet is usually an impossible task. I was pleasantly surprised that he was thoroughly engrossed in the task of sticking the tape in the shape of the letters. It was also a great opportunity for him to learn the spelling of DAD and GRANDPA and YEYE.

Hopefully if he remembers he can showoff during the actual father’s day this Sunday. 

THE EASIEST INSTRUCTIONS EVER

to recreate your own Father’s Day resist tape painting, you will need:

• Washi tape or masking tape. Washi is preferred as it comes off like a dream when the paint dries. Masking tape may lift some of the drawing paper with it. To prevent that, simply take the masking tape, run the sticky side over your own arm once or twice. Riley had fun doing that too!
• Poster paints and brushes.
• Patience to wait for the paint to dry
• Adult to draw the letters and toddler to stick, paint and peel!
